Welcome to the pinnacle of The Saltwater Sage experience. This is an invitation to co-create a wearable sanctuary that is mapped to your head and aligned with your soul.

Unlike standard headwear, a Bespoke Commission is not pulled from a shelf. It is forged by hand, steam, and fire in our coastal Maine studio, specifically for you.

The Ritual of Creation

1. The Alignment (Tarot & Intention) Your session begins with a question: What energy do you need to carry? We open the space with an optional Tarot Reading to clarify your intention. Whether you seek the protection of the Emperor or the flow of the Ace of Cups, we will weave that energy into the design of your band and brim.

2. The Mapping (The Conformateur + Formillion) Your head is not an oval; it is a landscape. We do not use tape measures for this. We use a 3D Printed Conformateur + Formillion—a modern take on an antique device that uses movable pins to capture the exact topography of your cranium.

• The result: A fit that feels like a second skin.

3. The Avatar (The Custom Wooden Last) From your map, we carve a Bespoke Wooden Last. This is a physical duplicate of your head shape. This last will not only keep your hat's special shape for years, it will provide a lifetime of perfectly fitting hats. 

• The Saltwater Sage Difference: Most hatters keep the block. We give it to you. Your custom wooden last goes home with you, serving as the permanent guardian of your hat’s shape.

4. The Alchemy (The Build) Using the finest ethically sourced fur felts, we block, pounce, fire, and hand-shape your Crown. We distress with fire if requested, and adorn with vintage ribbons, feathers, or talismans that match your intention. We have lots of special touches we can add to your one of a kind crown. 

The Keeper's Kit (What is Included)

Your commission is an investment for a lifetime. To honor that, your hat arrives with a complete care suite:

• The Crown: Your bespoke hat, forged in 100% Rabbit or Beaver Fur Felt.

• The Avatar: Your Custom Carved Wooden Last (Insert this when the hat rests to ensure it never shrinks).

• The Display: A custom 3D-Printed Wall Mount to turn your hat into art when off-duty.

• The Ritual Tools: A Horsehair Brush for cleaning and a Custom Dust Tote for travel.

Booking Your Commission

Please Note: This is an In-Person Experience. Because of the nature of the Conformateur mapping, you must be able to visit our studio in Lyman, Maine, or meet us at one of our scheduled Pop-Up Sanctuaries. If that is absolutely not possible, we will send you a special fitting kit and meet with you to help get the perfect size.
