Workshops at the atelier

The Immersive Millinery Experience

Saltwater Sage workshops are two-day immersive experiences for one or two people who want to go far beyond shaping a hat. You will spend real time in the studio learning materials, process, hand blocking, pouncing, shaping, and styling while making a felt hat of your own.

An Immersive 2-Day Experience

These workshops are intentionally small so the learning can stay personal. Over two days in the studio, Dana shares the tools, traditions, and hands-on process behind custom millinery in a way that feels grounded, generous, and deeply practical. This is for people who want to understand the craft by actually doing it. Experiences start at $1,200 per person.

In and Around Beautiful Lyman, ME

Things to Do

If you’re coming to Lyman for a workshop, it’s easy to build a full Southern Maine stay around your time in the studio. For meals, Palace Diner in Biddeford is a classic nearby stop, Fish & Whistle is a strong choice for a relaxed seafood-forward dinner, and Earth at Hidden Pond is a beautiful option if you want something more elevated. For time outside, you might head to the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge trail, walk the boardwalk at Saco Heath Preserve, or spend an afternoon by the water at Goose Rocks Beach or Ferry Beach State Park.

Places to Stay

For workshop guests who want a hotel, The Lincoln Hotel in downtown Biddeford is a strong boutique option in a restored mill building. If you want something more tucked-away and design-forward, Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport offers cottages and bungalows on a wooded property, and The Cottages at Cabot Cove are a charming choice for a quieter coastal stay. For guests who prefer a house or cottage rental, nearby Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Arundel, and Biddeford are good areas to search for short-term stays that make the workshop feel like a full getaway.

Getting Here

Lyman is easiest to reach by car, and guests driving in can use the Maine Turnpike map to plan the most direct route. If you prefer rail, the Amtrak Downeaster serves both Wells and Saco, which are practical nearby stations for reaching the studio. If you’re flying, the closest major airport is the Portland International Jetport, which also provides ground transportation information for the next leg of your trip.
